Battle of the Beaters

Battle of the Beaters

Hey everyone, welcome back to my vehicles and motors blog. Anyone here a fan of old 4×4 trucks? I used to have a hoot of a time with my siblings when we would go and buy some beater 4×4 for cheap (I would use for all my discounted vehicles) for under a specified amount, do anything to them we could while staying under that limit then trying them out in some sort of race. One year we even made our own snowmobile-trucks! A month ago we had a long awaited family reunion and we were able to have another Battle of the Beaters. It was me with an F-150, my brother with a Jeep Wrangler and our sister with a Chevy Silverado.

Ford F-150

I found myself a used 1979 Ford F-150 was missing quite a few parts but was still driveable. I probably could have talked the guy down more because of that but it was already a great deal for a cheap vehicle thanks to . Nothing seemed to be staying on without moving fast as all the fasteners had rusted off but this thing looks like something out of Fallout.

Jeep Grand Cherokee

My brother was able to find something a little newer, and found an ad for a cheap used Jeep Grand Cherokee for sale It was not in the best shape though, I think at one point in its life it was sitting in a swamp or maybe some quicksand, disassembled and the reassembled without leaving the sand. The Jeep was actually the cheapest to buy, but after replacing everything that initially seemed to be working it come out almost 200% over budget!

Chevy Silverado

My sister found the most expensive vehicle out of the three of us, and it needed only a moderate amount of work. It wasn’t anywhere close to the beast that the new 2017 Silverado is (I reviewed the Silverado recently if you are interested) but this thing was able to sling mud around like crazy. My sister even said she might keep the truck to drive around the farm.

The Winner

After an entire afternoon of racing around the dirt track on my uncle’s property it was determined that the Silverado was the best beater there was. Of course we still had to head on over to Princess Auto to get some vehicle tape and what not during the races, but that’s part of the fun.

Try it Yourself!

Next time your together with some other vehicle enthusiasts have your own battle of the beaters! Set whatever limits you want upon yourselves and just have fun. We had so much fun during our competition and it seems my sister even found her new truck. Let me know how it goes if you decide to have your own competition in the comments below, and if you have some spare time then check out my post on the BMW 530i.
